Best Fall 2026 Anime: The Shows You Should Be Watching

Whether you’re looking for intense battles, clever mysteries, heart-fluttering romance, or a story that makes you think about life a little differently, this season has something worth checking out. And no, you don’t need to watch every single premiere to enjoy it.

Here are some of the best Fall 2026 anime to keep on your radar.

What Makes Fall 2026 Worth Watching?

One of the biggest strengths of this season is its variety. Established favorites are returning with new chapters, while newer adaptations are bringing stories from manga, web novels, and other formats to the screen.

There’s also a nice balance between familiar franchises and titles that might not have been on your radar before. That means longtime anime fans have plenty to look forward to, but newcomers can still find something that feels fresh.

Let’s take a closer look at the shows that deserve a spot on your watchlist.

The Best Fall 2026 Anime to Watch

1. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2

Best for: Sci-fi fans who love emotional, high-stakes stories

Night City is calling again.

The return of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is one of the season’s biggest talking points. The original series made a lasting impression with its brutal world, unforgettable characters, and emotionally devastating story.

The new season has a difficult task: capture the same raw energy while giving viewers a reason to return to a world where survival is never guaranteed.

If you enjoy dystopian settings, stylish action, and stories that aren’t afraid to hurt your feelings, this is one to watch. Just remember: in Night City, happy endings are never something you can count on.

2. The Apothecary Diaries Season 3

Best for: Mystery lovers and fans of clever protagonists

Maomao is back, and that’s already a good reason to be excited.

The Apothecary Diaries has built its appeal around a fascinating combination of historical drama, palace intrigue, medical knowledge, and mysteries that reward careful attention. Its protagonist is especially compelling because she approaches problems with curiosity, sharp observation, and a healthy disregard for getting involved in other people’s business.

The third season continues the story of a series that knows how to make even a seemingly small mystery feel important.

If you enjoy unraveling clues alongside a protagonist who is always several steps ahead, Maomao’s latest adventures belong on your list.

3. Black Clover Season 2

Best for: Shonen fans who want action, teamwork, and big emotional moments

Asta’s journey is far from over.

Black Clover has always been about pushing beyond your limits, even when the world seems determined to tell you that you can’t. Asta’s lack of magic makes him an unusual protagonist in a world where magical ability defines status and power.

That premise gives the series its heart. Beneath the battles and explosive abilities is a story about persistence, friendship, and proving that your circumstances don’t have to define your future.

The second season is a major return for fans who have been waiting to see the Black Bulls back in action. If you love classic shonen energy, this is an easy addition to your watchlist.

4. Firefly Wedding

Best for: Romance fans who enjoy darker, more intense relationships

Not every romance begins with a meet-cute. Some begin with a desperate proposal.

Firefly Wedding follows a young noblewoman whose life takes a dangerous turn. In an attempt to survive, she proposes marriage to an assassin who has been sent to kill her.

It’s an unusual setup, and that’s precisely what makes it interesting. The story combines romance with danger, emotional tension, and a relationship that begins under circumstances far from ordinary.

If you enjoy romance with a darker atmosphere and characters whose feelings are complicated, Firefly Wedding could be one of the season’s most intriguing choices.

5. Overgeared

Best for: Fantasy fans, gamers, and lovers of character progression

What happens when a notoriously unlucky player gets access to a legendary class?

That’s the central appeal of Overgeared, a fantasy story set in a virtual game world. Its protagonist, Grid, begins as a struggling player but gains access to a powerful blacksmith class that changes his future.

The series blends MMORPG mechanics, crafting, battles, and character development. Instead of relying only on raw combat strength, Grid’s journey also involves making equipment, discovering opportunities, and learning how to use his abilities.

For fans of game-inspired fantasy and stories where an underdog gradually builds something extraordinary, Overgeared is worth a look.

And if you’re a fan of manhwa, this adaptation is especially interesting: it brings a popular Korean fantasy story into the anime spotlight.

6. Blue Box Season 2

Best for: Romance fans who enjoy gentle, character-driven stories

Sometimes, the best romance stories don’t need dramatic twists or impossible love triangles. They just need believable characters and feelings that grow naturally.

Blue Box combines romance with sports, following characters who are trying to improve themselves while navigating the confusing emotions of adolescence.

Its appeal comes from the way it balances athletic ambition with quiet, personal moments. The characters have goals outside their relationships, and those goals often influence how they understand one another.

If you’re looking for something more grounded after a season full of intense battles and fantasy worlds, Blue Box offers a refreshing change of pace.

7. Aoashi Season 2

Best for: Sports anime fans who enjoy strategy and personal growth

Football is more than just scoring goals. It’s about positioning, teamwork, decision-making, and learning to understand the game on a deeper level.

That’s what makes Aoashi stand out.

The series follows a young player trying to make his way through a demanding football development system. Rather than presenting success as something that comes from talent alone, it focuses on the work, mistakes, and lessons that shape an athlete.

The second season is a strong pick for viewers who enjoy sports anime with a grounded approach to training and competition.

Even if you’re not a football fan, the story’s focus on ambition and growth can be surprisingly compelling.

8. Magic Knight Rayearth

Best for: Classic fantasy fans and viewers curious about anime history

Sometimes, a new season is exciting because it introduces something completely new. Other times, it gives an older story another chance to reach a new generation.

Magic Knight Rayearth belongs to the second category.

The series follows three girls who are transported to a fantasy world and become magical knights tasked with saving it. Its mix of adventure, fantasy, and character-driven storytelling helped make it a memorable title for fans of classic anime.

The 2026 adaptation offers an opportunity for longtime fans to revisit the story while giving new viewers a way to discover it.

If you enjoy magical worlds, friendship, and classic fantasy adventures, this is a title worth exploring.
